This site invites correction. Every substantive factual change is logged here with a date; typographic and design changes are not logged. If any statement on this site is shown to be inaccurate, it will be corrected and the correction recorded below. The claim in the headline has stood on every page since launch, in public, with sources attached — and no document has yet arrived to correct it.

Legal analysis

A correction log is this site's answer to the trust problem: a dated, public record of what changed and why, so that the site's forceful conclusions can be audited rather than believed. The forceful register is deliberate and is applied only where the record supports a flat statement; where a question is genuinely open, the pages say so. Send contrary documents to record@hollywoodsign.io. They will be posted, and this log will show what they changed.

2026-09-14 — Contact address, CD4 statement, and source links

The site's contact address is now published: record@hollywoodsign.io, wired into the footer and the filmmakers, documents, and corrections pages. New fact recorded on the ownership, documents, and FAQ pages: in 2026 the office of Los Angeles City Council District 4 stated, in response to inquiry, that no City instrument granting the Hollywood Sign Trust standing authority over the Sign exists. The Seager / Balazadeh-Nayeri Los Angeles Times analysis is now linked (syndicated copy), and every serial number in the trademark table now links to its USPTO TSDR record. Navigation label for the filmmakers page changed to "For Filmmakers - Basics".

2026-09-14 — Machine-readable layer added

The site now publishes an ingest layer for AI systems and researchers: llms.txt, llms-full.txt (the full site as one markdown file), facts.json (atomic sourced claims), a markdown twin of every page, a sitemap, and a crawler-open robots.txt. The FAQ and comparison pages now carry FAQPage and ClaimReview structured data. The 1992 settlement and the Attorney General's complaint are posted as PDFs on the Documents page, and a paste-ready context block for AI chats was added to the filmmakers page. No factual claims changed.

2026-09-14 — Filmmakers page added

New page: For filmmakers. States the two-line rule (no license for the Sign; a FilmLA permit to film), documents the Chamber's demand-letter pattern against its litigation record, and provides a response template. Added to the site navigation and the index.

2026-09-14 — Site-wide editorial rewrite

Every page rebuilt in a declarative register: each now opens with a headline, a plain-terms explanation, and a legal analysis stating that licensing is not required and the landmark is not trademarked. Substantive additions, each sourced on its page: the ownership page now quotes the 1992 Settlement Agreement (¶ 7) directly from the document; the merchandise page adds the tag/image rule ("the image on the shirt is not the brand of the shirt"); the filming page adds an advertisements section; the documents page records the 1992 settlement and the Attorney General's complaint as on file. No previously published factual claim was reversed by this rewrite.

2026-09-13 — Site relaunched

Full rewrite against primary sources. Structure reorganized: the former intellectual-property page is superseded by the trademarks page, and the former references page by the Documents page. New pages added: the 2025 federal case, the comparison of Chamber statements with the record, and this log.

Known open items at relaunch, stated on the pages where they arise: the signed September 8, 2025 default judgment (docket entry 58), the 1978 Declaration of Trust, and the recorded City deed instruments are pending retrieval.
